‘The Audacity to Carry On” by June Samuel is a spectacular story, beautifully narrating the life instances. The author has made a great effort to make this a remarkable read. She was particular to start each chapter with the quotes from those famous writers, which made each chapter more meaningful and heart-touching. Those quotes comprehend the abstract of the theme of the referred chapter.
It is the story of Mari but has opened up with the short story of Rose. Only by writing about the mother's love and care, a story of a child can be much more effectively presented. Framing of certain sentences and usages in the story is highly appreciable as it puts the readers at the edge of mighty emotions. Adorns given to each moment by the author through the magical words, like the ‘the birth of a child is a monumental event in the life of a woman’ augments the beauty of this succinct tale.
Author’s love for nature and the way he enjoys each small thing in nature is very well reflected in the narrations. The beauty of rain and lightning whereas the arrangement of flowers in the garden, the beautiful side scenes of a South Indian village, etc as a panorama illustrated throughout the read. Once I started reading, the author has taken me to unimaginable dimensions of natural beauty. It was really a mesmerizing read.
What we are now is the inspiration of various people in our life. Of course, Mari has a strong inspiration behind her each decision. Mari's childhood she spends those happy days with her grandparents. Grandpa is her role model cum hero who inspired her to look the society and the people around her with a bright outlook. Even in her childhood days, she realized the real needs of the people and the ways how we could be a great consolation for those sad and sick people. Those hazardous and miserable experiences distracting her journey flew away as feathers in the air with the synergy within herself which is waved out from the memories of her grandpa. Those strong words and morals that she acquired from her grandpa helped to a great extent to solve those challenging hurdles and contingencies that arise in her career and life.
Each character has its own distinct importance in the development of the plot. Rather the author was so particular in sketching out the characters and marking them registered in the mind of the readers right after their read. And yes after my complete red of the tale, all characters in it became my friends, author was very successful in creating an intangible bond of illusionary connection between the readers and the characters of the story. The simple and powerful words used by the author made the reading more easier and enjoyable.
